Jim Roberts
Director: Foil/Epee Coach
Jim has been fencing for nearly a decade in the Connecticut area. He was three-time state champion at North Haven High School before moving on to fence at Sacred Heart University. In college he captained the men's team for three years and lead the Pioneers to back-to-back NFC Championships in 2010 and 2011. He recently captured seventh place in the nation in Division II men's foil. Jim is the head coach of the Warde and Ludlow combined high school team.
Justin Dion
Coach: Epee
Justin began fencing in 2004 at Bishop Feehan High School in Massachusetts and by 2008 he was the epee state champion. Justin went on to compete at Sacred Heart University, where he started for four years, and was named all-league in all four seasons. While at Sacred Heart, Justin placed 11th at the 2010 NCAA championship and was named All-American. In 2011 he captured fifth place in the nation in Division 1A at the national championship. In 2012 Justin led the SHU epee squad to third place in the national team championship.
Marty Williams, Jr.
Coach: Sabre
Marty started his training through the Peter Westbrook Foundation. While at St. Benedict's Prep School he trained at PWF for both domestic and international competition. In 2005 Marty received the Bronze Medal at the World Cup in Budapest, Hungary. In 2008 he won the Gold at Summer Nationals in San Jose, CA. Marty was recruited to fence with a full athletic scholarship to Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. He was named All-American in 2011. Since 2005 Marty has coached at the Peter Westbrook Foundation, mentoring their youth sabreists (Ages 8-19). Marty also coaches at the New Jersey Fencing Alliance.
John Mobley
Coach: Foil
John was first exposed to fencing as an 11-year-old, at a day camp in New York City given by fencers from St. John's University. His love of the sport continued in high school in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn. There he fenced foil for four years, rising to All City designation. John played basketball at City College, then returned to fencing as a coach. He started the program at LaGuardia High School in Manhattan, where he taught health and physical education for 30 years before retiring. John loves working with fencers of all ages.
Dr. Tom Vrabel
Coach: Epee/Foil/Sabre
With over 30 years of competitive fencing experience, Coach Vrabel has joined FFA, and coaches on Tuesday. Coach Vrabel has over 30 years of experience both coaching and competing in all three fencing weapons. He has been the head fencing coach of Sacred Heart University, since 2005 building the men's team into a persistent top 10 contender in the country. Previously, Coach Vrabel held assistant coaching positions at Brown University and US Navel Academy, where he developed several NCAA All-Americans. During his years of training he was mentored by U.S. Olympic Coach Zoran Tulum and Olympic gold medalist Witold Woyda. Vrabel earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut, and his Master's and Ph.D from Cornell University.
